Trump y la fotografía / Trump and photography
Ya les dije yo que íbamos a extrañar a este tipo…y a su fotógrafo.
Ha sido llegar Trump y convencernos de que la diplomacia, la elegancia y el saber estar son cosa del pasado y que no forman parte de su empaque; aunque supongo que por mas esfuerzos que haga Shealah Craighead la sustituta de Pete Souza debe ser complicado trabajar con un ‘tipo duro’ como Donald Trump.
Dicho esto, igual conviene aclarar que la relación de cercanía que tenían Souza y Obama ayudaba bastante quizás porque el fotógrafo cumplía a la perfección su papel de hombre invisible, porque es un gran fotógrafo (no es por quitar méritos pero a las pruebas me remito – Souza vs Craighead – o porque la administración Obama hizo alinear los planetas al complementar una excelente política mediática con gran protagonismo de la imagen visual, un buen fotoperiodista y al presidente mas mediático de la historia y que encima tenía carisma, mucho carisma.
Sea por lo que fuese lo cierto es que la sustituta de Souza lo tiene difícil porque hasta donde hemos podido ver lo que está fuera de duda es que Trump no pasará a la historia por su buena imagen pública, eso seguro.
El pasado mes de abril el Columbia Journalism Review publicó un artículo con 11 fotografías que ilustraban el desastre a nivel de imagen institucional en que se había convertido la Casa Blanca. Los comentarios en general no dejan dudas sobre su visión pero hay ejemplos tan locos como la famosa fotografía de Kellyanne Conway, el Couch Gate, como si estuviese en el salón de su casa, hasta otras tomadas con cristaleras de por medio, oscuras o con encuadres bastante ‘creativos’. Lo dicho, pasen y vean y juzguen ustedes mismos pero antes miren la foto de arriba, así ya van un poco prejuiciados.

Trump has come and convinced us that diplomacy, elegance and knowledge are a thing of the past and are not part of their packaging; Although I suppose that for more efforts that makes Shealah Craighead the substitute of Pete Souza it must be complicated to work with a ‘hard guy’ like Donald Trump.
Having said that, it is equally important to clarify that Souza and Obama’s close relationship helped a lot, perhaps because the photographer perfectly fulfilled his role as an invisible man, because he is a great photographer (not to take merits but to the evidence I refer – Souza vs Craighead – or because the Obama administration made align the planets by completing an excellent media policy with great prominence of the visual image, a good photojournalist and the most mediatic president in history and who had charisma and much more.
The truth is that Souza’s substitute has it difficult because as far as we have been able to see what is beyond doubt is that Trump will not go down in history because of his good public image, that’s for sure.
Last April the Columbia Journalism Review published an article with 11 photographs illustrating the disaster at the level of institutional image in which the White House had become. The comments generally leave no doubt about their vision, but there are examples as crazy as the famous photography of Kellyanne Conway, the Couch Gate, as in the living room of her house to other sockets with glass panes, dark or with enough ‘creative’ frames ‘.
